Asthma

Asthma is defined as when the airways of the lungs are inflamed and swollen, causing breathlessness, and symptoms include shortness of breath. Asthmatic conditions exist on a spectrum which extends from only rarely experiencing symptoms of asthma due to a trigger or allergen to chronic and marked airflow obstruction at all times.

Asthma is unlike chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and bronchitis in that the inflammation is reversible.
